Ukraine Blocks Polymarket Over War-Related Prediction Markets
Ukraine has escalated its crackdown on prediction markets by restricting access to Polymarket, a crypto platform facilitating wagers on geopolitical events. The move, enacted under Resolution No. 695, targets platforms operating without domestic gambling licenses and specifically cites concerns over markets tied to Russia's invasion.
The block, which took effect December 10, 2025, adds polymarket.com to Ukraine's registry of prohibited websites. Regulators argue such platforms blur the line between gambling and unregulated derivatives trading—a growing concern for governments worldwide.
This enforcement highlights the tension between decentralized prediction markets and national oversight frameworks. While Polymarket doesn't offer fixed odds like traditional sportsbooks, its real-world event contracts face increasing scrutiny as geopolitical risks mount.
